Mrs. Walsen grew up in Brookfield, and she and her four brothers graduated from St. Barbara School. Although her family belonged to St. Barbara Parish, they also attended Mass at St. Louise de Marillac. From an early age, she knew that she wanted to be a teacher. She and her siblings and cousins often played “school” together, and Mrs. Walsen was the designated tutor when one of her younger brothers needed homework help.
Jan attended Rosary College (aka Dominican University) and received licenses in both regular education and special education. After graduation she was thrilled to accept a fifth grade teaching position at St. Louise School. As the needs of our school changed, so too did her responsibilities. In addition to her classroom duties, she serves as assistant principal, Student Council facilitator, Reading Coordinator, and in Homework Club.
Mrs. Walsen believes it's wonderful to have the opportunity to teach the children of some of her former fifth graders. She loves the students, parents, and staff at St. Louise School. We are truly a family.
She and her husband, Michael, have three adult children who are all graduates of St. Louise. Their oldest, Patrick, is a Social Studies teacher, second oldest, Daniel, is a school counselor, and their youngest, Megan, is an English/Language Arts teacher. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Mrs. Walsen loves to read; having a mystery book to read and a cup of coffee to sip is a special treat!
